The basic grammar of Classical Arabic has remained stable over thirteen centuries. A language of prestige, it developed a rich intertextuality, conferred status on those who mastered it (no matter of their ethnic background) and retained a unique bimodal transmission in which oral and written media complemented each other. Through the Abbasid translation movement from the eight to the tenth century Arabic language incorporated a part of lexical treasure from Byzantine and Sasanian cultural heritage. Gramatičke osnove klasičnog arapskog jezika ostale su nepromenjene tokom trinaest vekova. Kao jezik statusa razvio je bogatu intertekstualnost, omogućavao ugled onima koji su njime ovladali (bez obzira na etničku pripadnost) i sačuvao bi jedinstvenu modalnu transmisiju u kojoj se međusobno dopunjuju usmeni i pisani mediji. Posredstvom prevodilačkog pokreta iz doba Abasida od osmog do desetog veka, arapski jezik je upio deo leksičkog blaga iz vizantijske i sa sanidske kulturne baštine.
