A. Wallis Budge (1857–1934). The Ethiopic version of the Alexander romance was developed from the Syriac, which is one of the oldest. Budge was curator of Egyptian and Assyrian antiquities at the British Museum. He published many works on the ancient Near East, including translations of ancient texts such as the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
