Hilka was the most active in the field of research of the old French and Medieval Latin literature. Hilka also published many richly annotated editions of important texts of Medieval Latin poetry.

Hilka se najviše bavio istraživanjima starofrancuske i srednjovekovne latinske književnosti. Objavio je dosta bogato anotiranih izdanja važne srednjovekovne latinske poezije.
