Arrian of Nicomedia (Lucius Flavius Arrianus Xenophon, 2nd century) was one of the main ancient historians of Alexander the Great. His Anabasis is generally considered one of the best sources on the campaigns of Alexander the Great, especially because of Arrian’s use of the important sources which are now mostly lost. His Indica is a description of Nearchus’ (commander of Alexander’s fleet) voyage from India following Alexander’s conquest. This edition also contains fragments of the texts by more than thirty ancient authors who wrote about Alexander the Great. The editors were famous classical scholars Friedrich Dübner (1802–1867) and Karl Müller (1813–1894). Year of publishing: 1846.
