<ns1:title language="en">GREEN TRANSFORMATION POSSIBILITIES ON THE PERIPHERY: POLICIES AND PRACTICE IN THEATRE</ns1:title>
    <ns1:language>en</ns1:language>
<ns1:description language="en">This paper explores the potential of green transformation within a theatre sector, focusing on challenges and opportunities faced by cultural institutions in peripheral regions, particularly on the Balkans. It delves into how these institutions navigate complexities of integrating sustainable practices amidst socio-economic constraints and limited infrastructural support. The study critically examines intersection of cultural policies, sustainable development, and theatre practices within a broader context of global climate crisis, highlighting how these elements interact to shape the capacity of environmental stewardship in arts. Despite growing awareness and initiatives, there remain significant disparities in the implementation of green policies in performing arts across peripheral regions, where resources and support structures are often lacking. Through empirical research conducted in seven theatres in Belgrade, not only does the study analyse current practices, but it also examines the extent to which these practices align with international standards, emphasizing pressing need for a more integrated and context-sensitive approach to sustainability in arts.
