Since the middle of the 20th century, we have witnessed profound and continuous shifts in methods of producing,
disseminating, and analyzing all kinds of information. Accounting could not stay out of reach of these changes.
On the contrary, the preparation and presentation of financial accounting information, suitable for making a wide
range of economic decisions by various stakeholders, had to be adapted to global trends not only in the business
world and the emergence of new business transactions but also to changes in the world of information and
communication technologies. This paper analyses the impacts of ICT on different areas of accounting and the
accounting profession in general in terms of its accustoming to new technological and technical solutions,
methodologies, and information transfer methods. There are three main spotlights: financial reporting in the
context of using main digital solutions, accounting education, and the future of the accounting profession. The
bottom line is not straightforward: ITC solutions and automation will speed up routine tasks and activities, but
activities that require critical thinking and creativity remain domains where accounting professionals are
indispensable. This situation further complicates finding adequate solutions for defining curricula at both high
school and university levels.</dc:description>
