<dc:description xml:lang="eng">Abstract: The importance of humanitarian logistics has increased in the last two decades due to
the increase in the number of people living in disaster-prone areas. Consequently, the
humanitarian supply chain and humanitarian logistics are very complex. The task of
humanitarian logistics is to provide all beneficiaries with the items and commodities required to
survive, improve health, and return to normal life. Different phases of disaster management are
characterized by various challenges. Thus, after the catastrophic event, the first reaction is made
by domestic or international suppliers who provide help by sending urgent relief commodities
such as water, food, medicine, and shelter. In order to serve people in need in the most effective
and efficient way humanitarian activities measurement is needed. Numerous kinds of research
suggested success and performance indicators for humanitarian logistics. The starting point of
the improvement process is a performance measuring and monitoring. Then, the observed poor
activities can be improved. This paper aims to point out the significance of success factors for
effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian logistics. This paper consists of four parts. The
paper findings show that success factors have a key role in performance improvement. Hence,
the overall improvement of humanitarian operations relies on well-defined success factors and
their constant monitoring. </dc:description>
