<ns1:title language="en">THE AGE OF DISINTEGRATION – AN ALTERNATIVE APPROACH TO FLAPPER IN F. SCOTT FITZGERALD</ns1:title>
    <ns1:language>sr</ns1:language>
U svetlu feminističke kritike i rodnih studija, rad nastoji da prikaže kako Ficdžeraldovo delo ističe važnost inspiracionih simbola, posebno u vreme lične, seksualne, porodične i nacionalne dezintegracije. Uveren da muškarci i žene imaju komplementarnu prirodu, autor izražava nemir zbog feminizacije američke kulture od strane zavodljivih devojčica, ali i muževnih žena. U svetu moderne neizvesnosti, androgina kompleksnost postaje alternativa.

The great American modernist F. Scott Fitzgerald, usually rembered as a chronicler of
the 1920s, was a writer who recognized, described and popularized the modern female
representative of the age – the flapper. By accepting flapper as a symbol of modernity,
he offered to public audience the image of a young woman who was self-indulging,
sexually liberated, egocentric, amusing and magnetically attractive. Alternatively, the
heroine can be viewed as a new philosophy of romantic individualism, rebeliousness
and freedom, i.e. the sublimation of romantic ideals in the new, modern age. Within
the fields of feminist criticism and gender studies, the paper aims at presenting Fitzgerald’s
oeuvre, which highlights the importance of inspirational symbols, specifically
in a time of personal, sexual, familial and national disintegration. Convinced that men
and women have a complementary nature, the author expresses restlessness because of
the feminization of American culture by seductive girls as well as masculine women.
In the world of modern uncertainty, an androgynous complexity becomes the alternative. However, the Fitzgerald who once presented the energetic young woman resisting
the old code of morality lamented the loss of the same code and the disappearance
of the patriarchal principle. Those androgynous tendencies were the impulse which
supported his fascination with female nature and inspired his characterization of exquisite
men and women, so that his art transcended its historical contingency.</ns1:description>
