SCOTT FITZGERALD sr Апстракт: Данас сматран парадигмом турбулентних 1920-их, Доба џеза и Изгубљене генерације, велики амерички модерниста Френсис Скот Фицџералд био је акутније свестан свога времена – славе, процвата и нестајања садашњости – него многи други писци. У својим причама и романима који прате тзв. „обред иницијације“, бавио се феноменом времена, променама и нестајањима као аспектима свога доба, и постепено, његова велика романтичарска тема изгубљеног времена постајала је више „самопрождирућа“ него што је то могао да пожели. Усклађен са пролазношћу времена, фасциниран његовим нијансама, он га се такође и бојао. Фицџералдова перцепција нестајања и његова глорификација младости преплитала се са променама у његовом креативном животу. Његов опус је тако прави доказ промена у веку у коме је стварао. Иронично је, онда, да његова уметност, која тако суптилно рефлектује дух младости, промене и нестајања, превазилази све ове феномене. Summary: F. Scott Fitzgerald is one of the most recognized figures in American literary and cultural history, not only as one of the major writers of the twentieth century, but also as a man whose life story excites the fascination of a public that knows him as an emblem of American popular culture. As American paradigm of the Jazz Age, Scott Fitzgerald was more severely aware of his own times – the glory, the blooming and the fading of the present – than most of other writers. The appeal of his canon depended on its emphasis on youth, a value that American culture would reinterpret for the world in the 1920-s. In his „rite of passage“ stories and novels, he was more sensitive to time, change and dissolution than most other aspects of his era, and gradually, Fitzgerald’s great romantic theme of lost time was more self-consuming than he might have wanted. Tuned to passing of time, fascinated by its nuances, he feared it as well. Fitzgerald’s perception of dissolution and his glorification of youth was intertwined with changes in his creative life. Proof of his century’s changes is in his art, maybe more than anyone else’s. Ironically, then, his art, which so subtly records the spirit of youth, change and dissolution, transcends them all.
