ХАРДИЈА INNOCENCE MISUSED – DETERMINISM OR DECONSTRUCTION OF THE MYTH OF LOVE IN L. TOLSTOY’S ANNA KARENINA AND T. HARDY’S TESS OF THE D’URBERVILLES sr Апстракт: Уобичајено је становиште да два велика романа руске и енглеске књижевности позног реализма деветнаестог века, Ана Карењина и Теса од Д’Арбервила, говоре о љубави, романси и страсти. Анализом у теоријском контексту деконструкције и родних студија, рад настоји да докаже да поменута дела управо представљају својеврсно упозорење на опасности мита о љубави, као и неодрживост оваквих пост-романтичарских претензија. Принципом деконструкције, негирајући патријархални и феминистички принцип, романса о љубави постаје оно што Фридрих Ниче назива Amor Fati – љубав према судбини или детерминизам. Summary: The Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy and his English contemporary Thomas Hardy did not believe in art for art’s sake. They believed in the novel not as a source of entertainment but as a tool of individual education and reform. According to them, it was the supreme medium to explore empathy and thereby expand our humanity and tolerance. Anna Karenina and Tess of the d’Urbervilles are both hybrids, belonging to those fluid and dual traditions in-between Realism and Modernism; in the authentic anti-romantic manner, they can be read as a specific deconstruction of the cult of love, substituting it with hypocrisy and conformism as a constant, while evoking a world that we once had and lost… Following the pattern of innocence misused, Tolstoy and Hardy, as the great representatives of this tradition, show that their deterministic constructions of the late nineteenth century pave the way for the time of transformation which characterizes the modern age. In doing so, they force us to a constant reexamination of those presently relevant issues on understanding our own self, gender issues, as well as the inevitability of influence by which emotional and physical energies constantly shape the reality we live in.
