Uz ime velikana filmske umetnosti Čarlija Čaplina vežu se mnoge sintagme:
„planetarna ikona”, „kralj komedije”, „genije smeha”. Čaplin je umetnički
fenomen jer je kompletan stvaralac: scenarista, režiser, producent, tumač
glavnih uloga, kompozitor. Humanizam ispoljen u saosećanju sa slabima,
obespravljenima i poniženima lajtmotiv je svih Čaplinovih filmova, što njegovu
umetnost čini privlačnom za milionsku publiku širom sveta. Poznato
je da je velikan komedije smatrao prioritetnim poznavanje ljudske prirode
i da je bio opsednut psihologijom ličnosti. On se, na osoben i samo njemu
svojstven način, takođe bavio socijalnom kritikom, ali je taj aspekt njegovog
stvaralaštva bio manje teorijski osvetljen. U njegovom slučaju reč je o nepristajanju
pojedinca na društvene norme i pravila koja sputavaju čovekovu
slobodu. Ovaj rad posvećen je Čaplinovoj kritici društva koja je bila prisutna
u njegovim komedijama, od nemih burleski do celovečernjih igranih filmova.
Satira, ironija, groteska, aluzija i sarkazam su ubojito „oružje“ kojim je on
raskrinkavao vlast i društvenu elitu kapitalizma.</dc:description>
  <dc:description xml:lang="eng">Abstract
Many syntagmas are attributed to the name of great Charlie Chaplin: “planetary
icon”, “king of comedy”, “genius of laughter”. Being an all-round film auteur:
screenwriter, director, producer, leading actor, composer Chaplin is often seen
as an artistic phenomenon. Humanism expressed in the sympathy for the weak,
deprived and humiliated is the motif of all his films, and makes his art popular
among and attractive to millions of viewers all over the world. It is well known
that this comedy giant believed that the knowledge of human nature was of the
highest priority and that he was obsessed with personality psychology. Although
he engaged in social criticism in his unique and idiosyncratic way, this aspect
of his work received much less theoretical attention. In his case, it was the issue
of an individual not conforming to those social norms and rules that restrict
human freedom. The aim of this paper is to analyse Chaplin’s critique of society
as present and expressed in his comedies, from silent burlesques to feature films.
Satire, irony, grotesque, allusion and sarcasm are a lethal “weapon” that he uses
to expose those in power and capitalist social elites.</dc:description>
