Феномену величине земље се може приступити са различитих аспеката. Међутим, питање је да ли постоје, у нашем времену, земље које се одликују оптималном величином са становишта степена рањивости држава. У раду се полази од тога да је нестабилност битна одлика економског и политичког амбијента у 21. веку, посебно у случају малих земаља. У том контексту, неопходно је обратити пажњу на утицај отворености земље, степена њене развијености, интеграционих процеса, расположивости природних ресурса и других чинилаца у условима глобализације на позицију малих земаља. У овом раду се посебно место, међу поменутим чиниоцима, придаје степену (не)стабилности. Фонд за мир (Fund for Peace - FfP) оцењује крхкост, ломљивост и рањивост држава у савременом свету према степену њихове нестабилности, угрожености и опасности од пропадања. Земље се рангирају према специјалној врсти композитног индекса (Fragile States Index - FSI) који узима у обзир више од 100 подиндикатора на основу којих се, потом, формира 12 индикатора на бази којих се оцењује социјални, економски и војно-политички аспект нестабилности, угрожености и опасности од пропадања држава. У раду ће бити посебно представљена и анализирана позиција Србије и Босне и Херцеговине, као и осталих земаља региона према FSI и према степену економске развијености Abstract: The modern world is a real mosaic in terms of the size of a country. The phenomenon of the size of the country can be accessed from different aspects. However, the question is whether there are, in our time, countries that are characterized by optimal size from the point of view of the degree of vulnerability of states. The paper starts from the fact that instability is an essential feature of the economic and political environment in the 21st century, especially in the case of small countries. In this context, it is necessary to pay attention to the influence of the country's openness, degree of its development, integration processes, the availability of natural resources and other factors in the conditions of globalization on the position of small countries. In this paper, a particular place, among the mentioned factors, is attached to the degree of (non) stability. The Fund for Peace (FFP) estimates fragility and vulnerability of states in the modern world according to the degree of their instability, vulnerability and danger of decay. The countries are ranked according to the special type of composite Fragile States Index (FSI), which takes into account more than 100 sub-indicators, on the basis of which, then, 12 indicators are developed on the basis of which the social, economic and military-political aspect of instability, vulnerability and the danger of the collapse of the states is assessed. The paper will separately present and analyze the position of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as other countries of the Region according to the FSI and the degree of economic development.
