o:29252 FINANCIAL SECTOR IN THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA en Abstract: In the first decade of the twenty-first century, the Serbian financial sector underwent structural changes which resulted in the restructuring and termination of existing and the establishment of new financial institutions providing financial services. The inherited financial system from the previous period is only recognized as financial service providers in the banking sector, represented by banks and other financial institutions1 , as well as the insurance sector. Due to the specificity in the evolutional changes in the financial sector, and predominantly due to the restructuring of the banking sector as its core component, we consider it worthwhile to display data for 2004 as the first data on its structure, as the first year in the reference period in which it is possible to continuously and thoroughly monitor general trends in the financial sphere.
