The motif of the post-apocalypse is often present in literature and popular culture, especially in times when human existence is threatened by wars or natural disasters. Although the roots of the post-apocalypse are found in religion, this motif has long since gone out of its religious canon. The large number of terms used to express and describe the end of the world, as well as the large number of terms that describe destruction, signal that this problem is always relevant. The major catastrophes that have befallen humanity show how the human race tends to repeat the same or similar patterns of behaviour eternally.Applying the comparative-analytical methods, the aim of this dissertation is to discover and analyse the scheme of elements / patterns that can be found in post-apocalyptic fiction and popular culture. These patterns reflect the problems that humanity has encountered in various disasters (downfall, fears, survival, needs, values, taboos, grouping, adjustment, humanism, hope ...). The works dealing with the post-apocalypse reflect the apocalyptic reality that humanity has gone through, and they also try to provide an answer to the question of whether mankind can overcome everything - even the Judgment Day.
