o:1352 Daqā’iqu l-’aẖbār ar In 1514 the Ottomansultan, Selim I ,ordered the massacre of 40,000 Anatolian Shia. According to Jalal Al-e-Ahmad, "Sultan Selim I carried things so far that he announced that the killing of one Shiite had as much otherworldly reward as killing 70 Christians." In 1801 the Al Saud-Wahhabi armies attacked and sacked Karbala, the Shia shrine in eastern Iraq that commemorates the death of Husayn. In March 2011, the Malaysian government declared the Shia a 'deviant' sect and banned them from promoting their faith to other Muslims, but left them free to practise it themselves. Godine 1801., vojska As-Sauda Vahabija napala je i poharala Karbalu, šiitsko svetilište u istočnom Iraku, mesto spomena na Husejnovu smrt. Marta meseca 2011. godine, malezijska vlada je proglasila šiizam izopačenom sektom i zabranila im da dugim muslimanima promovišu svoju veru, ali im je prepustila slobodu da sami sprovode svoju praksu.
