Evrope, a javljaju se marginalno i u severnoj Africi (Maroko, Libija) i zapadnoj Aziji (Kavkaz).
Rod obuhvata oko 40 taksona u rangu vrsta i podvrsta, rasprostranjenih na području Balkanskog
poluostrva, Karpata i Alpa. Pretpostavlja se da je rod nastao u Alpima, ali je centar morfološkog i
taksonomskog diverziteta na području Balkanskog poluostrva. Kako morfološki i anatomski
karakteri po pravilu postepeno variraju, nije bilo lako ustanoviti kvalitativne razlike koje bi imale
veći taksonomski značaj, što je dovelo do pogrešnih taksonomskih klasifikacija roda Sesleria. U
skladu sa tim, evolutivna istorija, morfološka varijabilnost, rasprostranjenje i ekološke
karakteristike pojedinih vrsta roda Sesleria su još uvek slabo poznati.
Istraživani kompleks Sesleria rigida je rasprostranjen u Rumuniji, Bugarskoj, Srbiji,
Bosni i Hercegovini i Grčkoj, a prostire se duž nekoliko planinskih venaca Balkanskog
poluostrva – centralni i istočni delovi Dinarskih planina, Karpato–Balkanidi (istočni i južni
Karpati, planine u severoistočnoj i istočnoj Srbiji, zapadnoj i centralnoj Bugarskoj), Rodopske
planine u Bugarskoj i jugoistočnoj Srbiji i Grčkoj. Vrste ovog kompleksa su zabeležene u
širokom dijapazonu nadmoskih visina (od 70 mnv do 2400 mnv), naseljavaju staništa pretežno na
karbonatima, ali se mogu javiti i na serpentinitima. S obzirom na različitost stavova po pitanju
taksonomije kompleksa i njegovu nedovoljnu morfološku, genetičku, fitogeografsku i ekološku
istraženost,osnovni ciljevi ovog rada su: utvrñivanje areala pojedinačnih taksona, utvrñivanje
osnovnih karakteristika njihovih staništa i samim tim i njihove ekološke preferencije, opisivanje
varijabilnosti morfo-anatomskih karaktera, kao i genetičke varijabilnosti populacija primenom
molekularnih metoda. Konačan cilj ovog rada predstavljala bi taksonomska revizija čitavog
kompleksa.
Areali pojedinačnih taksona su kartirani na osnovu podataka iz literature, kao i na osnovu
revizija herbarskog materijala i terenskih istraživanja. Podaci o ekologiji vrsta su prikupljeni
obradom literaturnih podataka, a vegetacijske grupe koje odgovaraju tipovima staništa na kojima
se javljaju analizirani taksoni su utvrñene klaster i ordinacionim analizama. Varijabilnost morfoanatomskih

    <ns1:description language="en">Species of the genus Sesleria (Seslerieae, Pooideae, Poaceae) are distributed throughout
most of Europe, but could also be found marginally in Northern Africa (Morocco, Libya) and
Western Asia (Caucasus). Genus comprises about 40 taxa on species and subspecies levels,
distributed on Balkan Peninsula or on Carpathians and Alps. The Alps are presumed to be the
place of the genus origin, but the centre of its morphological and taxonomic diversity is in Balkan
Peninsula. Since morphological and anatomical characters vary gradually as a rule, it was not
easy to establish qualitative differences to have greater taxonomic importance, which have led to
erroneous taxonomic classifications of the genus Sesleria.
The investigated Sesleria rigida complex is distributed in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia,
Bosnia and Herzegovina and Greece, extending its range throughout several mountain systems on
Balkan Peninsula – Central and Eastren parts of Dinaric Mountains, Carpatho-Balkan Mountains
(Eastern and Southern Carpathians, mountains in Northeastern and Eastern Serbia, Western and
Central Bulgaria), Rhodopes in Bulgaria, Southeastern Serbia an Greece. The representatives of
the complex can be found in a wide altitudinal range (from 70 to 2400 m a.s.l.), mostly on
carbonates, but also on serpentinites. Considering the opposing opinions on the taxonomy of the
complex and its insufficient morphological, genetic, phytogeographic and ecologic exploration,
the main aims of this work were: to define the ranges of individual taxa, to determine basic
characteristics of its habitats and accordingly their ecological preferences, variability of its
morpho-anatomical characters, genetic variability by molecular methods. The final aim of this
work was to revise taxonomicaly the complex.
The ranges of individual taxa are charted based on literature data, as well as on the
revisions of herbarium data and field explorations. Data on ecology of the species were collected
by processing the literature data, and the vegetation groups corresponding the habitats where
analized taxa can be found were determined by the cluster and ordination analyses. Variability of
morpho-anatomical characters was determined by measuring 42 morpho-anatomical features.
